7 world famous temples of city Varanasi

Varanasi is a city of Uttar Pradesh which is situated beside mother Ganga in the northern Indian. It is known as the spiritual capital of Hinduism. Varanasi is known as the oldest city in the name of “Kashi”. This city draws Hindu pilgrims who bathe in the Ganges River’s sacred waters and perform funeral rites. Along the city's winding streets are some about 2,000 temples but here, we talk about some famous temples which are following down here;

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is one of the most famous rituals Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the Temple stands on the western bank of the holy river Ganga. The main deity is known by the names “Kashi Vishwanath” and literally meaning of Shiva is “Lord of the Universe”. Varanasi city is known as   Kashi from ancient time, and hence the temple is popularly called as Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

In the temple, offerings to Lord Shiva (Bel Ptra), Dhatura, Garland, as well as “Bhang”.

Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is a Hindu temple and is dedicated to the Hindu God Hanuman. The temple was established by famous Hindu preacher and poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century and it is situated on the banks of the Assi river and presently called Sankat Mochan. The deity was named as a "Sankat Mochan" meaning the "Reliever from Troubles". In the temple, offerings to Lord Hanuman (called Prasad) are sold like the special sweet “Besan ke Laddoo”, the idol is also decked with a pleasant “Tulsimala” (Garland) as well.

Durga Mata Mandir was constructed in the 18th century by Bengali Maharani- Rani Bhabani. The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Durga. There is a Kund (Pond) nest to the temple which was earlier connected to the mother Ganges. It is believed that the existing icon of the goddess was not made by a human but appeared on its own in the temple.

Tulsi Manas Mandir is one of the most famous temples of the holy city Varanasi. This is situated near Durga Kund (Place). This temple has great historical and cultural, ritual importance in Hinduism since the ancient Hindu epic. Originally Rmcharitmans was written at this place by Hindu poet-saint, Goswami Tulsidas in the 16th century. Ramayan text has been written inside over the wall.

Shri Vishwanath Mandir (Birla Temple) construction has taken thirty-five years to complete (1931-1966). This temple is one of the tallest temples in India. The height of the temple is 77 meters (253 feet). Temple's design was inspired by “Kashi Vishwanath Temple” and is made mostly of white marble. Although this temple is consists of nine temples within one temple and is open for everybody. This is situated inside of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

Baba Kaal Bhairav Temple is a famous oldest Shiva temple of Varanasi. This Situated at Bharonath, Vishweshwarganj in Varanasi. This temple has great historical and cultural importance in Hinduism. The temple is dedicated to (Kaal Bhairav), a fierce form of Shiva, and wears a (Garland of the skull) and carries a club of peacock feathers. The word "Kaal" means both "death" and "fate". It is believed that even death is afraid of “Kaal Bhairav”. The temple is a silver faced idol of Kal Bhairav who is seated on his vehicle, a dog, and is holding a trident. Only the face of the icon decorated with garlands

Markandey Mahadev (Lord Shiva), this temple is situated beside of mother Ganga at Kathi, Chaubeypur in Varanasi. It is the way of Gazipur road which is connecting to Varanasi city. This is one of the famous temples to visit.  As we know, that Varanasi is known for Lord Shiva therefore its city of lord Shiva.
